Solar Eclipse - April 8, 2024

Texas State University will be near the path of totality of a total solar eclipse which will take place between 1:30 - 1:50 p.m. Below are guidelines and reminders to help you enjoy this rare event safely.

Be Prepared

Expect Increased Traffic

With much of Central Texas in the path of totality, heavy traffic is expected before and after the eclipse. Please plan ahead and be prepared for potential delays and road closures. 

Protect Your Eyesight

Do not look at the eclipse under any circumstances unless you are wearing certified eclipse safety glasses.

Stay Informed

Make sure you signed up to receive TXST University safety text alerts, and continue to monitor your TXST emails. With an influx of visitors to the Central Texas area, delays in cellular reception are possible. Be prepared for interrupted cellphone and internet communication. 


University Operations

  • Texas State University will remain open on April 8.
  • Classes are suspended from noon to 2 p.m. on the San Marcos and Round Rock campuses.
  • Faculty members and supervisors are encouraged to coordinate remote work, time off, or office closures to allow the Bobcat community enjoy the eclipse.

Eclipse Campus Events

The following events are free for the Bobcat community to join. Eclipse glasses will be provided at no cost while supplies last:
