Dear Bobcats,

As Texas State University continues to grow and modernize our San Marcos Campus, and a significant milestone is approaching in the Hilltop Housing Phase II project.

To connect the new residential village to the university’s main infrastructure, critical tie-in to our utilities must be performed. This work requires a shutdown of cooling systems in several campus buildings which could last from May 18 through May 25, 2026.

This window was specifically selected to occur after Spring move-out and before the start of Summer classes to minimize the impact on our student population. To ensure the outage is as short as possible, crews will be working 24 hours a day until the system is restored.

The following buildings will experience significant changes to climate control:

No Air Conditioning:

  • Albert B. Alkek Library (Building will be closed)
  • Jackson Hall
  • Jones Dining Center
  • LBJ Student Center
  • Matthews Street Garage
  • Tower Hall

Reduced Cooling Capacity:

  • Bruce and Gloria Ingram Hall
  • College Inn
  • Elliott Hall
  • Encino Hall
  • McCoy Hall
  • Supple Science
  • Richard A. Castro Hall
  • Roy and Joann Mitte Building Complex
  • Trauth-Huffman Hall

We recognize a week with no or limited climate control is a significant challenge. Facilities will continue meeting with building stakeholders to develop specific operational plans.

Employees: Please coordinate with your supervisor regarding potential remote work options or flexible scheduling during this week.
Students: If you plan to be on campus during this period, please be aware that the Alkek Library, the LBJ Student Center, and the other buildings listed above may be closed or operating on a limited basis during this time. Using alternate spaces in non-impacted buildings is encouraged.

In addition to the climate control interruptions, a portion of the loading dock near the LBJ Student Center trash compactor on Matthews Street will be closed, with one lane remaining open at all times with flaggers on-site to ensure safety.

Building a modern campus requires complex infrastructure upgrades, and this represents the final major utility disruption for the Hilltop II project. Your patience is appreciated as we navigate these significant growing pains.
