Below are important tips and resources to help you stay safe during winter weather.

Prioritize Safety & Stay Informed

  • Driving and Walking: If you feel unsafe driving or walking to campus when the university is open, please communicate directly with your supervisor or faculty member to discuss alternatives. Be sure to check DriveTexas.org for road conditions.
  • Avoid Slippery Areas: Stay off untreated surfaces and wear appropriate footwear for icy conditions.
  • Prepare Supplies: Keep extra water, food, and snacks in your office or room to minimize trips during freezing weather.
  • Space Heater Safety: Never leave space heaters unattended to prevent electrical accidents.
  • Charge electronic devices: Charge electronic devices in advance and have multiple ways to receive weather updates.
  • Class Closures: If the university closes, all classes, including online ones, are typically canceled. We will communicate through official channels any changes promptly.
  • Stay Informed: Stay tuned to local weather outlets for the most up-to-date information. Additional information on cold weather safety can be found on the National Weather Service’s website.

Stay Warm

  • Dress in Layers: Pack winter clothing, including jackets, gloves, and hats, as additional winter weather may occur this semester.
